Assault Of The Minigames

I posted a rant about today's game update. I'm abusing the Copy and Paste functions to plop them down here.

Live with it.

Woke up this morning, tended to my immediate needs, found that I had nothing to do as it's too bloody hot here, so I booted up the PC and loaded the RuneScape site.

Pyramid Plunder? Yes, a continuation/expansion of the Sophanem/Menaphos quest/areas. Hey wait a minute here..."plunder"? That sounds suspiciously like....aaargggh...

...another minigame.

It seems that minigames are being pumped out to almost "justify" the fact that we have skill levels in the first place these days.

We just had a minigame about bootlegging rum (I won't even go into the moral implication where a MMORPG is teaching its typically very young audience that brewing moonshine is a rewarding and jail-free activity) this month already. Another one?

I haven't been to the new pyramid, but if past minigames is any indication this could well turn into a forgotten about area in a week or two at longest.

Speaking of forgotten realms, why can't Jagex focus its efforts on building up the areas that were already released but nobody, and I mean NOBODY, bothers with? Prifddinas has been ignored for 2 years now. The digsite is also neglected completely, and that hasn't been used since the RSC days.

Sure, I recognize that pumping out quests constantly is demanding, but at least quests drive the various storylines/subplots within the game itself. Minigames on the other hand really don't serve a function in RuneScape other than to be short-term distractions. Trouble Brewing is completely deserted on most servers, but I guess Jagex is bolstered by the success of Pest Control, and one could argue that Castle Wars is also successful (if not the most infamous).

Enough please. Expands the existing landscape. Bring some of the towns and NPCs we haven't seen in so long to life again. Give us a reason to re-explore.

Good point. I haven't tried some of the minigames, since there seems to be no point to them. Why try a minigame that sounds silly to begin with?

Agreed, I only like one fo the minigames, I'd take the new corssbows, or new magic spells over trouble brewing, pest control, and pyramid plunder.

I'm not even going to bother going to this Pyramid Plunder thing. The only mini-game I ever go to is Castle Wars. Castle Wars could be great with some tweaking (like preventing a team from holding their own flag). But trying to kill a level 123 flag-carrier surrounded by 50 guys is almost impossible to do.
